What is AAOIFI? How does this screener work?
Understand the four financial ratio tests applied to every stock

AAOIFI (Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions) is the global standard-setting body for Islamic finance. Their Sharia standards define specific financial ratio thresholds that a company must meet for its stock to be considered permissible for Muslim investors. The idea: even a company in a generally permissible industry can be too entangled with interest-bearing debt or income to qualify.

1
Debt / Market Cap
Total interest-bearing debt (short + long term) divided by the company's market capitalization. Measures how much the company relies on conventional interest-based financing.
< 33%
2
Interest Income / Total Revenue
Interest and other non-permissible income as a percentage of total revenue. Even halal businesses sometimes earn small amounts of interest — this threshold allows a limited tolerance.
< 5%
3
Cash & Securities / Market Cap
Cash and interest-bearing short-term investments divided by market cap. Ensures the company is not primarily holding or investing in interest-generating assets.
< 33%
4
Receivables / Market Cap
Net accounts receivable divided by market cap. A high receivables ratio can indicate significant deferred interest-like transactions or credit-heavy business models.
< 49%

Business activity screening uses sector/industry classifications which may not capture all revenue sources. Data may be delayed or incomplete.
